RIBA Cornwall Branch - Work Experience Competition

This week we are taking part in the RIBA Cornwall Branch Work Experience Competition. We have two students joining us from Year 10 Penair School.

Here is an outline of the design brief for the project:

The task is to design an observation station for lifeguard operations. The location of the project can be any beach or lakeside in Cornwall.

Requirements:

space for 2 RNLI Lifeguards

observation point where a Lifeguard can clearly see people in the water

first aid room for treating one person (possibly from sun stroke, a sting to the foot, cuts and bumps)

secure overnight storage space for the equipment:

- 8 flags and poles
- 2 rescue boards
- 2 rescue tubes binoculars
- 2 portable first aid kits
- 4 VHF radios
- 1 spinal board

provide an electricity supply to enable VHF radios to be charged, a PA system to give safety announcements, and to run one fridge with medical supplies in.

be able to remove the observation station on the back of a truck each Autumn and re-instate it each Spring. Back of truck dimensions are 2.8m wide, 5m long and 3.5m high.

We would like to wish the students the best of luck and we will display the final designs at the end of the week.
