After deciding to relocate to Cornwall David Fawcett discovered an old boathouse complete with access to a private slipway and bought it on a whim. David started to think it may have been a rash decision once problems started to arise. The flat above the old boatshed was in desperate need of updating but the lower walls started to collapse under the strain of the renovations. The course of action had to change and a complete rebuild needed to take place.
Frost undertook the building work with CAD Architects' Ross Edwards at the helm. The project took a year to complete and by Autumn 2007 Jocelyn and David were living in their beautiful new boathouse.
Two thirds of the property was developed as the living area and the remainder devoted to boat storage. The property features a spiral staircase, round windows, a huge open-plan living area with glass skylights and a stunning view over the water.
The contemporary architecture sits perfectly in this area of outstanding natural beauty and combines comfort with functionality. The exterior is clad in low maintenance untreated cedar and hosts two large iroko decked areas complete with cedar hot tub and sailcloth awning.
We are very proud that the Boathouse received a 'Special Commendation Award for a New Building' at the Cornish Buildings Group Awards in 2008.
