It's a Double for CAD : Planning Granted for Village Halls

Planning approval has just been granted for two local Village Hall projects.

Carnon Downs Village Hall

Planning permission has just been granted for a major redevelopment of Carnon Downs Village Hall. The works comprise the demolition of unservicable sections of the existing hall and the construction of a 230M2 extension, with new entrance and concourse, kitchen, toilets, storage, offices and a replacement hall. The existing main hall will be refurbished.

On completion the hall will offer comfortable and flexible accommodation for the use of the local community, with highly sustainable running and maintenance costs.

Devoran Village Hall

The majority of the historic fabric has been retained with the addition of an expressed ‘contemporary’ extension with a zinc roof and timber cladding to provide additional facilities including a disabled toilet and improved catering and servery facilities. A new covered entrance gives flexibility allowing the hall to be used by two groups simultaneously. The removal of a recent single storey toilet block allows the creation of a glazed gable end enabling the building to address the village and adjoining car park and provide good daylight into the interior. A new slate roof ,glazed rooflights, replacement windows and improvements to the insulation and building fabric add further benefits.

CAD Architects worked closely with the Devoran Village Hall Committee and the Conservation Department at Cornwall Council to prepare a scheme for the extensive refurbishment and extension of the existing Grade II Listed village hall and Listed Building Consent and Planning Approval has recently been granted.

There are positive indications that both projects are likely to attract Lottery Community Fund grant aid, and the Practice now looks forward to the construction phases and then to
the handover of these two magnificent new facilities.
