CAD Architects: Contemporary Restaurant Extension Approved in Padstow Conservation Area

CAD Architects Ltd were delighted to be asked by award winning Padstow-based Chef Paul Ainsworth to assist in creating additional internal dining space at his Rojano’s In The Square restaurant in the town.

The restaurant’s restricted site and prominent position in the heart of the Padstow Conservation Area presented a unique design challenge.

When considering a design CAD relied upon their Heritage Consultant Sam Mayou, to provide a detailed analysis of the historic development of the site and surroundings. Sam was able to provide the Project Architect with a full understanding of the site’s specific conservation issues to help them arrive at a striking contemporary design, befitting the restaurant’s stylish modern interior, which could be shown to both protect and enhance the unique character of the Conservation Area.

CAD Architects Ltd worked alongside the client’s Planning Consultants, Steven Abbott Associates, to achieve Town Council support and Planning Permission for the project which is due to be completed early in 2015.

Speaking of the project, Steven Abbott of Steven Abbott Associates said:
‘It has been a pleasure working with, Paul Ainsworth and his fellow Directors and their teams on this project. The design is contemporary but sensitive to the context. Rather than go for an off the shelf pastiche, CAD’s bespoke, contemporary glass ‘box’ is a great design solution which will enhance the locale and set the standard for quality. I also applaud Cornwall Council’s case officer and Padstow Town Council for their preparedness to review the proposals with us and enable a permission to be granted’.
