When interviewed by the local media Mrs Whitaker said "About a year ago I approached the Monopoly makers Hasbro with the idea of a St. Mawes version of the game. They were unsure of the idea at first because they thought the place was too small."
But Mrs Whitaker convinced Hasbro to commission the game.
She added: "I told them what a special and unique place St Mawes is, and how it's a family resort which people come to year after year."
There are a few differences between the classic game and the St Mawes version…these include a mooring fee as opposed to a super tax and the King Harry ferry taking the place of Kings Cross station. The chance/community chest cards have also been customised. Examples of these include “Wind Shift in your favour Advance to Go” and “You have been caught jumping off the harbour wall, pay a fine of £20”.
Local landmarks such as St. Mawes Castle and Hotel Tresanton are representing the iconic parts of the original game such as Bond Street and Mayfair and the lovely new butcher was happy to be Old Kent Road.
Hotel Tresanton is the second project from the CAD portfolio. Back in 1998, CAD Director Peter Bayly carried out the original works that created Hotel Tresanton in its present form and he has continued to carry out major extensions and alterations to the hotel with the most recent being the creation of three new suites in the adjoining Rock Cottage and a restaurant extension.
I wonder how many other CAD projects will feature on the St. Mawes monopoly board?
…we will just have to wait and see!
There will be a family fun event at the Hotel Tresanton in St Mawes on Easter Monday to launch this limited edition version of the game but it is available to buy online now http://roseland-online.co.uk/roselandonline-shop/gifts.html
